Flooring is the largest visual surface in any room and the first thing a buyer or guest notices when they walk in. At Art Edge Construction Ltd, we install luxury vinyl plank, engineered hardwood, solid hardwood, and ceramic or porcelain tile across Edmonton homes — new builds, renovations, and single-room upgrades.
We’ve laid floors in over 500 Edmonton projects. Every job gets a proper subfloor assessment before installation begins, because how long your floor lasts has more to do with what’s underneath it than the flooring itself.
We start with the subfloor. Squeaks, bounce, and premature floor failure almost always trace back to a subfloor problem that wasn’t fixed before installation. We check for high spots, low spots, damaged OSB, and moisture issues before anything goes down. Problems get fixed at this stage — not discovered two years later.
We install every major flooring type. LVP, engineered hardwood, solid hardwood, laminate, and tile — we do all of it. If you’re not sure what suits your space, we give you a straight recommendation based on subfloor type, traffic level, moisture exposure, and your budget.
Our cuts are precise. Clean cuts at transitions, consistent expansion gaps, properly seated nosings on stairs — this is where the quality shows. An experienced installer reads the room before they cut the first plank.
We handle the whole floor, not just the easy parts. Stairs, closets, transitions to different flooring types, under door casings — we don’t skip the complicated areas. Conrad, one of our commercial clients, had us install LVP across multiple apartment units and returned us for multiple buildings because we handled every detail consistently.
We clean up completely. Flooring generates significant debris. We remove all material waste and leave the site clean at the end of every day.
Step 1: Measure and Material Planning We measure the space, calculate material quantities with waste factor, and confirm the right product for your subfloor type and use case. LVP over concrete in a basement is a different spec than engineered hardwood over plywood on a main floor.
Step 2: Subfloor Assessment and Prep We check flatness tolerance (LVP requires 3/16″ per 10 feet), moisture levels in concrete slabs, and any damaged substrate. High spots get ground down. Low spots get filled with floor-leveling compound. Squeaky areas in wood subfloors get screwed off.
Step 3: Acclimation (Where Required) Solid hardwood and some engineered products need 48–72 hours to acclimate to the home’s humidity and temperature. We schedule installation start dates around this requirement.
Step 4: Installation LVP and laminate: floating click-lock installation with appropriate underlayment, maintaining proper expansion gaps at all walls. Hardwood: glue-down or nail-down depending on subfloor, with proper stagger pattern. Tile: full mortar bed, back-buttered tiles, laser-leveled layout, grouted and sealed.
Step 5: Transitions, Nosings, and Trim Stair nosings, transition strips between flooring types, door thresholds, and quarter-round or shoe molding at baseboards. This step makes the job look finished versus just installed.
Step 6: Final Inspection We walk every square foot with you. Any area that isn’t right gets addressed before we consider the job complete.

Ceramic or porcelain tile (supply and install): $8.00–$16.00 per sq ft depending on tile size and layout complexity.

We install flooring across Edmonton and the surrounding region. Regular service areas include Windermere, Terwillegar, Summerside, Heritage Valley, Ellerslie, Bonnie Doon, Westmount, Glenora, Castle Downs, and Mill Woods. We also serve Sherwood Park, St. Albert, and Spruce Grove.
Flooring is frequently part of our full basement development projects and complete home renovations where we coordinate the full scope under one contract.
This question comes up on almost every basement project we do, and the honest answer matters because Edmonton basements are below grade and deal with seasonal humidity swings.
Luxury vinyl plank is the right choice for most Edmonton basements. It handles moisture, it installs directly over concrete with the right underlayment, and modern LVP looks nearly identical to hardwood at a fraction of the cost. Products in the $3.50–$5.50/sq ft range give you 12–20 mil wear layers that hold up for 15+ years in a residential basement.
Engineered hardwood works in basements that are dry and well-insulated, particularly in newer Edmonton homes with proper moisture control. We don’t recommend solid hardwood in any basement — the seasonal humidity movement in Alberta is too significant.
Tile is the right call for basement bathrooms and utility areas — it handles moisture and is easy to clean.
We’ll give you a straight recommendation based on your specific basement conditions after a site visit.
A standard main floor of 1,000 to 1,500 sq ft runs 2 to 3 days including prep, installation, and trim. Larger whole-home projects or those with significant subfloor prep take 4 to 7 days. We give you a timeline in the written quote.
Sometimes. LVP can go over existing tile or hardwood if the surface is flat and the added height doesn't create issues with doors or transitions. We assess this at the quote stage. In most cases with older flooring or uneven surfaces, removal produces a better result.
Yes. We offer hardwood refinishing — sanding, staining (optional), and refinishing — for solid hardwood floors that have surface wear but are structurally sound. Cost ranges from $3.00–$5.00 per sq ft.
