Stairs are the transition point between floors, and they’re the one place where a mismatch in flooring materials or a poorly fitted nosing shows immediately. At Art Edge Construction Ltd, we finish stairs to match the adjacent flooring — whether that’s luxury vinyl plank, engineered hardwood, or tile — with precision-fitted nosings, risers, and trim that look like they came with the house.
We finish stairs as a standalone service and as part of full basement developments and flooring projects across Edmonton.
Stair tread flooring: We install LVP, engineered hardwood, or solid hardwood on every tread, cut to fit precisely within the stringer and flush to the nosing edge.
Nosings: Stair nosing is the overhanging edge of each tread — it has to be the right profile to match your flooring thickness and create a safe, smooth transition. We stock and install nosings that match every major LVP and hardwood profile.
Risers: The vertical face of each stair step. We finish risers with painted MDF, matching hardwood, or matching vinyl depending on the design and the adjacent flooring.
Landing: The flat area at the top or bottom of a staircase. We extend your flooring onto the landing with matching material, correctly transitioned at every edge.
Trim and baseboard: Stair stringers (the angled side trim) and baseboard returns are cut and installed to provide a finished, polished edge at every angle.
Per stair (tread + nosing + riser): $85–$175 depending on material and complexity. Most standard 13–15 stair cases run $1,200–$2,800 complete.
Stair landing (flooring only): Priced per square foot at the same rate as the adjacent flooring.
Full stair renovation including removal of existing carpet: Add $15–$25 per step for carpet removal and staple removal from treads.
In most cases, yes. Bring us the product name or we can often identify it from a photo. Nosing profiles are standardized across most major LVP brands and we stock a wide range.
No. Stair finishing — flooring, nosings, risers, and trim — is cosmetic work that does not require a permit.
Yes. This is a common project. We remove the carpet and tack strips, inspect the underlying tread for damage, replace any damaged sections, and install the new flooring with proper nosings. The result looks like a fully new staircase.
