Bathroom Renovation in Edmonton — Full Remodels Built to Last

A bathroom renovation done right lasts 15 to 20 years. Done wrong, it starts failing in two — cracked grout, water behind the tile, mold in the wall, a vanity that doesn’t level properly. At Art Edge Construction Ltd, we build bathrooms the correct way from the substrate out: proper waterproofing membrane before any tile goes down, backer board on every wet surface, and grout joints that stay sealed.

We handle full bathroom remodels in Edmonton from demolition to final fixture install. That means tile, waterproofing, vanities, shower pans, tub surrounds, heated floors, and every finish between the studs and the mirror.

Why Edmonton Clients Choose Art Edge Construction for Bathroom Renovation

We waterproof before we tile. This sounds obvious but it’s where most budget contractors skip. We apply a full waterproofing membrane behind every shower and tub surround, which is why our tile work doesn’t fail and why water doesn’t reach the studs.

Tile work is our specialty. From large-format porcelain to intricate mosaic accents, our tile installers have set thousands of square feet across Edmonton bathrooms. Every tile is back-buttered, every row is laser-leveled, every grout joint is consistent.

We coordinate the full scope. Vanity installation, mirror and lighting placement, toilet re-set, shower glass measurement — we manage the sequence so nothing is left for you to figure out.

We’ve renovated bathrooms in every Edmonton home type. Tight 5-piece ensuite in a newer Windermere build. 1970s main floor bathroom with galvanized supply lines that needed updating. Basement bathroom installed from bare concrete rough-in. We’ve done all of it.

Reviews back it up. Demian, one of our clients, had us do his tub surround tiles and said we were punctual, worked in a timely manner, and the results made him happy enough to give a five-star review. That’s the standard for every bathroom we touch.

No subcontractors on waterproofing or tile. These are the two steps that determine whether a bathroom renovation holds up for a decade. Our own crew handles both, every time.

How Our Bathroom Renovation Process Works

Step 1: In-Home Consultation and Measurement We walk the existing bathroom, take precise measurements, photograph everything, and discuss your vision. We look at the existing plumbing location, window placement, ventilation, and any signs of existing moisture damage that need to be addressed before new work begins. You tell us what you want — walk-in shower, soaker tub, double vanity, heated floor — and we price it honestly.

Step 2: Demolition and Substrate Preparation Existing tile, drywall, fixtures, and flooring come out. We inspect the subfloor and wall framing for any moisture damage that accumulated behind the original installation. Any rot or damaged framing is replaced at this stage — not concealed.

Step 3: Waterproofing and Backer Board Full waterproofing membrane is applied to all shower walls and the floor pan. Cement backer board goes over all surfaces receiving tile. This stage takes a day or two and it’s the most important work we do — everything else depends on it.

Step 4: Tile Installation Floor tile first, then wall tile. We use a laser level on every layout. Grout type and color are selected based on tile size and client preference. We apply grout sealer on completion.

Step 5: Fixtures, Vanity, and Finishes Vanity installation, mirror hanging, light fixture mounting, toilet re-set, shower glass or curtain rod installation, and all plumbing trim-out. Accessories — towel bars, toilet paper holder, robe hooks — go in last.

Step 6: Final Walkthrough We walk every inch of the bathroom with you. Any spot that isn’t right gets fixed before we call the project complete.

Bathroom Renovation Pricing in Edmonton

Bathroom renovation costs in Edmonton depend heavily on size, scope, and existing plumbing location.

Cosmetic refresh (new tile, vanity swap, fixtures): $8,000–$14,000.

Mid-range full remodel (full tile, new shower, vanity, flooring, all fixtures): $14,000–$25,000.

High-end or large ensuite (heated floor, custom shower with niche, freestanding tub, double vanity, premium tile): $25,000–$45,000.

Basement bathroom from rough-in (first-time install on existing rough-in): $12,000–$20,000.

What pushes costs higher: moving plumbing (drain relocation is a significant cost), low-ceiling basement installation, large-format tile requiring specialty substrate preparation, and freestanding tub installations that require reinforced flooring.

We give written quotes. No hourly surprises mid-project.

Areas We Serve for Bathroom Renovation

We renovate bathrooms across Edmonton — southwest, south, central, east, and north. Communities we regularly serve include Windermere, Terwillegar, Summerside, Heritage Valley, Mill Woods, Bonnie Doon, Glenora, Westmount, and St. Albert. We also serve Sherwood Park and Spruce Grove.

Our basement development service includes bathroom installs from rough-in for clients finishing their basement at the same time.

"I'm Worried About Hidden Costs Halfway Through the Job"

This is the most common fear Edmonton homeowners have before a bathroom renovation, and it’s earned — plenty of contractors quote low and charge high once the walls are open.

Here’s how we handle it: our written quote includes a clear list of assumptions. If we open a wall and find rot or a plumbing problem that wasn’t visible at quote time, we stop, show you exactly what we found, give you a written change order with the additional cost, and wait for your approval before continuing. Nothing hidden, nothing added without your sign-off.

In our experience, roughly 30% of bathroom renovations in homes built before 2000 reveal some pre-existing moisture damage behind the original tile. It’s common. What matters is how the contractor handles it when it shows up.
