The kitchen is the room that sells a house and the room that determines how a family lives in it. At Art Edge Construction Ltd, we handle the installation side of kitchen renovations in Edmonton — cabinets, countertops, islands, backsplashes, and all the finish trim work that makes a kitchen look complete.
We work from your cabinet order or coordinate with your supplier. We handle the install, the leveling, the scribe work against walls that are never perfectly flat, and every detail from crown molding to toe kick. This is skilled carpentry work — the gap tolerance on a cabinet door is 3mm, and we hit it every time.
Cabinet installation is precision carpentry. The reveal on every door, the gap at the ceiling, the alignment between upper and lower cabinets — these tolerances are measured in millimeters. We set a level reference line, shim from that line, and never let the floor’s slope (and Edmonton floors slope) dictate cabinet height.
We handle the full installation scope. Cabinet boxes, doors and drawer fronts, hardware installation, countertop template coordination, backsplash tile, island assembly and anchoring, under-cabinet lighting rough-in, crown molding, and all trim. One call, one crew, one bill.
We work with your timeline and your suppliers. Whether your cabinets come from IKEA, a local cabinet shop, or a custom millwork company, we install them. We coordinate with countertop fabricators for template and installation scheduling.
We’ve installed every kitchen layout. Galley kitchens in older Edmonton bungalows. Open-concept L-shaped kitchens in newer suburban builds. Full gut renovations where we removed everything down to the studs and rebuilt. We know what each type requires.
Backsplash tile is something we do exceptionally well. It’s the detail most homeowners notice first and most contractors rush. We lay out the pattern before cutting a single tile, center the focal point properly, and never start from a wall that isn’t plumb.
Step 1: Site Measure and Scope Confirmation Before installation begins, we take precise measurements of the kitchen space, confirm cabinet delivery schedule, and identify anything in the existing kitchen that needs to be addressed before installation — uneven floors, plumbing locations that affect island placement, or electrical that needs rerouting.
Step 2: Demolition (If Required) Existing cabinets, countertops, and backsplash come down. We patch drywall and flooring as needed to prepare a clean, level substrate for the new installation.
Step 3: Cabinet Installation Upper cabinets first — hung from a level reference line fastened to the studs, not resting on the lowers. Lower cabinets shimmed to level and screwed together as a run. All cabinets fastened through the back panel into wall studs.
Step 4: Island Assembly and Anchoring Islands are assembled, leveled, and fastened to the subfloor. Seam between multiple island cabinet runs is filled and scribed. Overhang support brackets installed for countertop cantilever.
Step 5: Countertop Coordination We work with your countertop fabricator to coordinate the template visit (after cabinets are fully installed) and the countertop delivery and install date. If you’re using butcher block or prefabricated laminate countertops, we install those directly.
Step 6: Backsplash Tile Layout line established and centered. Tile cut, installed, grouted, and sealed. Outlet covers reinstalled after tile completion.
Step 7: Trim, Hardware, and Final Details Crown molding, light rail, toe kick, filler strips, door and drawer hardware installed. Soft-close adjustment on all hinges. Final punch-list walkthrough.
Kitchen renovation costs depend heavily on cabinet quality and kitchen size.
IKEA or box-store cabinet installation (labour only): $3,500–$7,000 for a standard 10×10 kitchen including install, hardware, and trim.
Mid-range kitchen with new cabinets, countertops, and backsplash (supply and install): $18,000–$35,000. This covers semi-custom cabinets, quartz countertop, and tile backsplash.
Full gut renovation with custom cabinets: $40,000–$75,000+ depending on layout changes, cabinet specification, and countertop material.
Backsplash tile only (existing kitchen): $1,500–$4,500 depending on tile complexity and kitchen size.
Kitchen island installation (supply and install): $2,500–$7,000 for a pre-built island with countertop. Custom built-in islands are quoted separately.
Plumbing relocation and electrical work are coordinated through licensed trades and quoted separately.
We renovate kitchens across Edmonton and surrounding areas — Windermere, Terwillegar, Summerside, Heritage Valley, Ellerslie, Bonnie Doon, Glenora, Westmount, and beyond. We also serve Sherwood Park, St. Albert, and Spruce Grove.
Kitchen renovations are frequently part of larger complete home renovation projects where we handle multiple rooms under one contract.
This is the right question to ask before you start, because the answer affects your budget.
Standard approach: Flooring goes in first, then cabinets sit on top of it. This means flooring runs under the toe kick of every cabinet — which wastes material in the cabinet footprint but protects you if you ever change cabinets in the future.
Alternative approach: Cabinets go in first, flooring installs after. This saves material but means the flooring runs up to the toe kick. If you ever replace cabinets with a different depth, you may have an exposed strip of original subfloor.
For most Edmonton homeowners doing a full renovation, we recommend flooring first. We coordinate the sequencing so both trades run efficiently without waiting on each other. See our flooring installation service for details on what we install.
A standard cabinet and countertop swap in an existing kitchen runs 5 to 10 business days including demolition, cabinet install, countertop template and fabrication waiting period (typically 7–14 days), and backsplash tile. Full gut renovations with layout changes run 3 to 6 weeks.
Yes. We install IKEA SEKTION cabinets regularly. IKEA kitchens require precise measuring and sequence-specific assembly to work correctly — we've done enough of them to know where the common mistakes are and how to avoid them.
Cosmetic renovations — new cabinets, countertops, backsplash — don't require a permit. Any plumbing relocation or electrical panel upgrade does. We advise you on this at the consultation stage and coordinate with licensed trades for work that requires it.
